Our Samsung Tocco Review

Samsung Tocco

Design

Upon first look on the Samsung F480 Tocco, we saw a compact, hypnotizing design. The silver metallic build is glossy and attractive with sophisticated edges. You can easily accessorize your hand with a leather-like battery cover for a dash of excitement. This made the Samsung F480 Tocco a stellar in the design department as it did not go cheap with the accessories.

Screen

At 2.8 inches, the Samsung F480 Tocco’s screen sports 256,000 colours 240x320 touch-screen. Unfortunately, the first thing we’ve noticed is the fact that the screen is a fingerprint magnet – hence the supplied chic leather case. The image quality is saturated with effervescent colours and great contrast. The glossy screen’s performance is a bit diminished in direct sunlight. We could not make out the text or images under the sun and had to run under a tree for a call.

User Interface

The Samsung F480 Tocco’s user interface is straight-forward and user-friendly. The main screen consists of 12 colorful icons that are easily navigated through. The user interface is highly customizable to go with your personal lifestyle. The widget system can be easily by dragging and dropping the shortcuts.

Samsung Tocco Side

Keypad

The Samsung F480 Tocco’s touch-screen works is highly responsive. We thought it competes nicely with the iPhone. On the downside, the Samsung F480 Tocco lacks an on-screen QWERTY keyboard, so texting can be a nightmare for an average user.

Camera and Multimedia

The Samsung F480 Tocco’s 5 megapixel sports great technology designed for impressive photography. Its features include: autofocus, LED flash and ShutterSmile technology. The images shot are sharp, vibrant, and saturated. However, in direct sunlight, the image quality drastically tones down.

Video shooting enables users to capture video in different formats such as MPEG4, H264, and H263. The Samsung F480’s video mode is like having your personal camcorder in your pocket. The video editing features are one of the best found in the market to enhance video footage.

Samsung Tocco Back

In the multimedia department, the Samsung F480 Tocco’s music player is a format professional. It comes with great support for most music such as: MP3, AMR, XMF, MIDI/SP, AAC, AAC+ and WMA. The music is crisp resonating clearly through the headphones. The vast memory space available enables you to store thousands of titles in your library. Not to mention, you can easily plug in an extra microSD memory for extra storage.

The Samsung F480 Tocco’s pre-installed Java games were a blast. We loved trying them out and are positive users will spend hours enjoying them.

Connectivity and Battery Life

The Samsung F480 Tocco’s connectivity features lack an important element: Wi-Fi. We were a bit disappointed with this, as most competitor handsets have built-in Wi-Fi. It comes with neat 3G HSDPA 7.2 Mbps support enabling speedy downloads. For data transfer, the Samsung F480 Tocco brings Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0 for data transfer and PC syncing.

Browsing the internet is a piece of cake with the Samsung F480 Tocco. Its built-in browser supports xHTML and HTML for maximum web surfing flexibility.

The battery life is competitive with great talk time rates. For a multimedia user, the expected recharging is estimated at 2-3 days depending on music and video playback.

What We Liked

We liked the Samsung F480 Tocc’s compact size, 2.8” touch screen, and customization features.

What We Disliked

We disliked the Samsung F480 Tocco’s fingerprint magnet screen, lack of on-screen QWERTY, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Our Final Verdict

The Samsung F480 is worth every penny you shell out. It boasts great multimedia features, an impressive camera, and 3G support. Throw in its stylish design and you have a winner handset with a reasonable price tag.
