Our Samsung Jet Review

Samsung Jet

Design

Let’s get this straight: the Samsung Jet is no smartphone, but it is one piece of elegance bundled with great multimedia features. The slim, compact design is quite nifty with glossy look. It fits perfectly in our pocket and palm. The Samsung Jet is glamorous with a red-carpet kind of look; the D-pad is unusual and stands out on the shelf.

Screen

At 3.1in, the Samsung Jet’s WVGA screen sports 16 million colours at a stunning 800x480 resolution. We simply couldn’t ignore the Samsung Jet lying on our table, for the screen delivers vibrant, realistic graphics that catch your eyes regardless of the hour. The built-in accelerometer automatically switches orientation between landscape and portrait modes. Unlike many high-end handsets, the accelerometer is versatile operating through different applications.

User Interface

The Samsung Jet’s user interface is among the top in the high-end handset market. It combines the much-loved customizable widget system with smart design and usability. You can easily navigate through the direct three-paged home screen by gently swiping your finger across the screen. The widget system employs a 'drag n’ drop' method to improve usability commonly utilized by Apple’s iPhone.

Keypad

Like most touch-screen handsets, the Samsung Jet is minimalist on the keypad front. The main control is a large hexagon button that gives off the illusion of a cube shape. It is one of the most stylish keypads on the market. In fact, we felt the Samsung Jet’s keypad gives the handset a unique edge. You can access all the handy features through the hexagon’s side such as: video player, music player, radio, web browser, and games. You can easily unlock the screen by tapping the lock key on the left side or drawing a clear letter.

Camera and Multimedia

Let us just start with this note: Samsung is a multimedia factory. We were absolutely impressed with the 5 Megapixel camera’s images. With resolutions ranging from 640x480 to 2560x1920, the Samsung Jet employs its 16 million colours wisely for clear, vivacious photos. After effects include exposure, white balance, brightness, and 4x zoom. Shooting features include: a timer, adjustable ISO, colour levels, and a dual-LED flash. We loved the camera’s mosaic, panorama, and continuous modes, in addition to its blink detection, and smile shutter technologies.

Moving on to the music player, we see how simplicity works out best for those who master it. The interface is a pleasure to work with shuffle, repeat, and playlist modes. The 3.5 mm sound jack is a great feature to include for we were eager to plug in our favourite headphones. The music quality is just stunning – not as stunning as Sony Ericsson’s crystal clear Walkman series – and can be played in the background.

Connectivity and Battery Life

The Samsung Jet has great connectivity with 3G HSDPA, WAP, USB 2.0, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. We found that the web browser is quite snappy; loading pages without breaking a sweat. It offers stable usability for the web surfer.

Battery life is estimated at 8 hours of talk time and 430 hours standby. By our standards, the battery life does a great job even with heavy multimedia usage. You can easily leave your handset on the table for 5-6 days without charging.

What We liked

We liked the Samsung Jet for its sophisticated look and feel, multimedia features, responsive touch-screen, and reliable performance.

What we disliked

Lack of GPS integration, and limited customization for different user types.

Our Final Verdict

The Samsung Jet is multimedia factory packaged in a chic look. If you’re looking for the right pinch of design, performance, and features, we recommend the Samsung Jet as it won’t disappoint.

Liked the LED flash as I love taking photos last night. Other features seem average, but great as a cameraphone

The Jet's multimedia does it for me. I don't have to carry an iPod to sync my music, I love it's built-in mp3 player
