Our Nokia X7 Review

Nokia X7 Goes For Big

The Nokia X7 is a high end smartphone that offers quality and a great design. The phone has all the features and capabilities smartphones are famous for offering except for 3D. However, it competes with 3D phone in screen size offering a large display area. The phone weighs 146 grams so it feels solid in the hand. The Nokia X7 runs on an updated version of its OS named Symbian Anna, has a 680MHz processor and offers several improvements over earlier versions including a revamped browser, portrait orientation virtual keyboard, brand new icon set and vastly better homescreen menus and scrolling.

Battery Life

To find or replace the battery you will probably have to take the phone to the dealer. You can’t access it which is an odd design feature. The good news is that the battery can last up to 2 days with normal use. Normal use includes periodic internet browsing, view viewing and emailing.

Large Screen

The Nokia X7 has a large 4 inch screen. It also has a QWERTY keyboard that now works in portrait mode which was not true for earlier versions of Symbian. The screen resolution is 360 X 640 nHD which is not the best, but the images are sharp and the colours are vivid so the lower resolution is usually not an issue. In addition, the screen offers much better visibility in the sunlight than many other smartphones.

Multimedia and More

The Nokia X7 has an 8MP camera, a 720p video recording, and a bright LED light. There is only a back camera and no front one, but the video has a zoom while video capturing. There are two speakers and not four, but the sound quality is quite good. The phone includes an FM radio which more and more smartphone users are demanding.

Going Mobile!

The mobile features of the phone work great. You can easily set up your mobile email. The phone offers Wi-Fi connections and HSDPA or enhanced 3G technology. Web browsing is efficient with pages loading quickly. You get lots of web browsing options and can use pinch to zoom to reflow websites for more comfortable viewing. One advantage of the Nokia X7 is the fact it supports Flash. There’s GPS and plenty of apps.

What We Liked

The construction of the phone is high quality with a metal backplate protecting the interior hardware. The touch in the touchscreen is quite responsive which is wonderful. Also, there’s great sound output and an OLED-powered contrast ratio. We also like the fact that Nokia is continually upgrading Symbian as it chases Safari and Android. Another “like” is the improved visibility in sunlight because a faded out display can be really bothersome.

What We Disliked

The large size of the phone may make it difficult for smaller hands to hold. The camera is only average in terms of functionality and for the price of the phone it seems like the camera should offer more. For example, there could be more internal memory since it only comes with 350MB though expandable with an 8GB microSD card. One other dislike is the fact the interface with social media accounts like Facebook doesn’t get you automatic updates like you can get on many other smartphones. You have to add contacts one by one.

Our Final Verdict

The Nokia X7 is a high quality phone with a much improved menu structure. There are nice things to say about the phone including its great display size and capabilities and a long battery life. The phone has a unique angular design that makes it stand out in the crowd.
