Our Nokia C7 Review

Have Nokia made a big mistake by sticking with the Symbian OS? Well, yes and no. If you've never used an iPhone or a handset equipped with Google's Android OS, you'll think that Symbian is cooler than cool, so don't go compare. But Symbian is catching up with the big boys.

The Nokia C7 mobile phone has a lot going for it, but it's biggest let-down is its price. At launch, expect to pay around £400 for this handset, but expect to get a lot for your money. One clever feature, for example, is the second microphone. While on a call, this will detect and cancel background noise, enabling listeners to hear you better, so you only have to say anything once. You know what it's like when you're on the train, listening to the person next to you saying everything three times ... Now you won't have to.

The C7's camera is simply superb. As well as the front-facing lens for video calling, the 8-megapixel camera gives fantastic results, plus you have 8 gigs of storage, so you can snap away all day until dumping the results on to your computer. The images are worth sending to a friend or two, or more.

The Symbian may be a nuisance to set up, but after a couple of minutes of fiddling, you have everything at your fingertips. Literally. The interface on the Nokia C7 mobile phone has everything you could want to play or work with. Scrolling, swiping and tapping are so much more responsive than previous models. In fact, this handset is an absolute dream to use. With pre-loaded Facebook and Twitter, buying this handset means you can pick it up and go to all your contacts.

The Nokia C7 mobile phone will suit both those who want a hassle-free life as well as users who see their phone as a scaled down PC. The choice of homescreens means that technophobes can give themselves a choice of one, while the more digitally-minded can set them all up to do whatever they need.

Maybe it's a huge design mistake or a touch of genius, but the Nokia C7 mobile phone offers an alphanumeric keyboard in portrait mode and a QWERTY keyboard when turned to landscape. This is great in practice, because some of us just can't get used to texting on a full keyboard, but have trouble emailing from an alphanumeric set of keys. Giving the user more choice, to use the handset as they choose, is a great selling point. With a superbly responsive screen and all the usual features available in a user-friendly set-up, this phone, although not the cheapest, will keep users happy for a long time. Until they start hankering for something even sexier.

What We Liked

Easy to use, with a great camera.

What We Disliked

Symbian will be perfect one day, but not today.

Our Final Verdict

Solid feel in the hand with some good features, albeit a little pricey.
