Our LG Optimus One Review

Frill seekers, look elsewhere. The LG Optimus One is obviously named because the company will be delivering later models in this basic series. But if basic is your bag, look no further. It's hard to see what the Optimus Two, or Three will deliver, because this phone gives you what you need, and none of the stuff you don't.

The designers of the LG Optimus One mobile phone have obviously thought long and hard about what the user wants. Some phones are cleverly, but also stupidly designed. They look cool, they look different, but they are a pain to use. The Optimus One smart phone feels reassuringly solid, sitting firmly in the hand, and is, most of all, easy to operate with one hand. A bit like a phone. A touchscreen phone shouldn't have too much on the outside, and LG have sensibly kept most things on the screen. The screen itself is pleasantly responsive, clear and crisp.

There's nothing much wrong with the Android interface, and the skin over it on the LG Optimus One mobile phone doesn't give you a lot to play with. Again, sensibly, LG's designers have left well alone, although the pre-loaded QWERTY keyboard is fiddly, and you'll soon want to download another one from Android's store. But its predictive typing option is one of the best around. A more useful option is its alphanumeric keyboard, which could save you time if you are a text addict.

Serial surfers won't be too happy with this handset. It's 600mhz processor means that browsing is slow and quality, especially when viewing text pages, is a little rough. But the response of the screen is great, so you have to decide what you want for your money. Pinch-zooming is just as good as most phones at this price.

The camera on the LG Optimus One mobile phone is packed full of features, for pre- and post-shoot. But there's no flash. However, the editing features more than make up for this omission, and lightening up a snap taken without flash is easy, so, except for those really taken in the dark, you wouldn't miss it. Of course, most users wouldn't want to play about with the white balance before taking shoots of their friends gurning in a nightclub, but it's good to have the option. Uploading shots to social networking sites is very easy to do, thanks to the LG Optimus One mobile phone's integrated settings.

Other features work well. The LG Optimus One mobile phone's video streaming capabilities, for instance, are generally more than you would expect for a handset in this price range, and sound quality was overall very good.

What We Liked

Ease of use and lack of fussiness found elsewhere

What We Disliked

Internet browsing annoying

Our Final Verdict

Solid. Basic. Unpretentious.
