Bold Qwerty Keyboard

The moment you lay your eyes on the BlackBerry Bold, you can tell a different story has just begun. As you hold it your palm and turn it over, you’re in for a surprise. Unlike many of the modern handsets flooding the market, the BlackBerry Bold’s back is not your plastic cover, but rather a revamped leather-like back plate for a chic, refined look. Moving on to Bold’s luscious slants borrowed from the Curve series and its solid-bulky military feel of the 800 series, the BlackBerry Bold is a drastic improvement from his previous generation counterparts. Bold’s elegant form factor comes in the dawn of the Web 2.0 revolution with a sleek urbane industrial design to complement a modern user’s lifestyle.

Screen

With its valuable assets such as the 2.75 in screen, the BlackBerry Bold may become your next love affair. Its rich, dynamic 480x320 resolution is packed with over 60,000 colors condensed into the panel’s modest size. The Bold’s resolution itself marks a sharp advance from its cousin handset the BlackBerry Curve with its mere 320 x 24. Put side by side with the iPhone 3GS, the BlackBerry Bold is a winner with its higher pixel density. While its screen is nothing near the iPhone’s panoramic screen; many will still feel tempted to touch their Bold’s or keep it near their sight at all times.

User Interface

RIM has definitely put the screen’s resolution to great use by enhancing the user interface, font, and icons. Starting with the icons, you’ll find an easy-to-spot dock at the bottom of your screen – a jump from the traditional left side display. This dock-style yet again challenges Apple’s iPhone interface, as scrolling between icons is a breeze. The font is elegant and easy on the eye making it a winner in the usability department.

Keypad

Moving on to the Bold’s keyboard, you’ll feel relieved that the 800 series’ clunky keypad is nowhere to be found. Instead, you find four prominent control bottoms that you can spot and click without multiple presses. The QWERTY keyboard is soft and your fingers grow addicted to its touch.

Connectivity & Battery Life

You cannot think of Bold’s keyboard and not think of its new email capabilities. Gone are the days of plain text… it’s time to meet the new HTML support. You can easily view your favorite newsletters with all the formats reserved down to the very last paragraph. While BlackBerry Bold’s web browser does not support flash animations, you’re bound to fall in love with RIM’s web browser’s new features. You can view your page in a column view or a page view, move around the clickable page with an on-screen cursor, and view HTML pages without breaking a sweat. Such features come as a great relief since most BlackBerry handsets are plagued with poor browsing facilitates. In comparison with other handsets such as the iPhone 3GS, Bold is still modest in the browsing department.

Battery life is definitely not an issue with BlackBerry Bold. You can be carrying your handset for days before remembering that unlike you, it needs to be charged for power. No matter what kind of apps you run, expect a reliable companion with great power support. An exception to the rule, however; is Wi-Fi, that is when you’ll really need to charge your Bold every now and then.

What We Liked

We liked the BlackBerry Bold for its rich, dynamic screen, chic design, full HTML support, high pixel density, and revamped user interface.

What We Disliked

We disliked the BlackBerry Bold’s price tag and its improved but still mediocre web browser that needs to live up to the current navigation standards available in the market.

Our Final Verdict

The BlackBerry Bold is a bold choice that doesn’t disappoint. After overlooking the price tag, you’re in for a great experience enriched with a high-quality screen and uber cool design.

User Comments

One tip for anyone having probs with their battery-life, only turn on the Bluetooth and WiFi when you really need them. I found you can get much longer out of the battery before having to recharge.

Have to use one of these for work and whilst not the best phone I've had, it does everything it's supposed to and has a few neat features

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good alround phone with easy navigation and lots of features.

Never got why people prefer iphones over blackberry, I love using my blackberry as I find much easier and less cluttered..
