Our Samsung NC10 Review

Samsung NC10

Design and Screen

The Samsung NC10’s design is quite minimalist and modest. We fell in love with its plain shiny lid and metallic strip across the edges. The non-glossy finishing makes it ideal for buyers with families, as the surface is not prone to fingerprints.

Like many netbooks in the market, it sports a traditional 10-inch screen. The screen performance is exactly what we expected: high-end, magnificent, and reliable in different environments. Whether you’re sitting in the shade or working in direct sunlight, the Samsung NC10 delivers great visibility. The viewing angle is wide and clear for two adults to comfortably watch a movie together.

In terms of mobility, the Samsung NC10 fits in most standard laptop sleeves and is easy to carry around due to its super light build. For those not too keen on buying a laptop sleeve, we carried the Samsung NC10 in a small bag without any trouble. However, the general build of the Samsung NC10 is not as durable as it seems, so paying attention to where your bag goes is a wise move to avoid any damages.

Keyboard and Trackpad

The Samsung NC10’s keyboard is great for messaging and social networking addicts. It is big enough for a user to type with ease, and compact enough as a whole unit not to take much room in your workspace. Touch-typists will love using the Samsung NC10, as it provides great feedback and speed. While we would’ve loved seeing a multi-touch trackpad, browsing and navigating was simple and easy using the vertical scroll strip on the side. On the downside, the trackpad can be a bit small for most users, as we would’ve loved a bigger strip for easier access.

Performance and Battery Life

If we were to describe the Samsung NC10 in two words, we’d have to say: silent performer. The Samsung NC10 delivers impressive performance without overloading the fans or making loud processing noises. The integrated Intel Atom processor is standard in the netbook world, but couple that with great design and you have the ultimate recipe for performance. Our test of running an XviD movie, downloading a torrent, and running a casual virus scan proved the Samsung NC10 to be a winner.

In terms of connectivity, the Samsung NC10 delivers solid features such as: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 3 USB ports. It is solid as many high-end models end up missing one connectivity feature or two. On the downside, it lacks 3G integration. We weren’t very disappointed with such a fact, as many of the high-end competitor netbooks don’t have 3G integration either.

The Samsung NC10’s battery life goes hand in hand with its performance. When operating heavy applications, the battery still managed to live up to our standards. For a casual user surfing the internet and listening to light music, he can easily go for a full working day – sans the lunch break – without the battery running out.

What We Liked

We liked the Samsung NC10 for its friendly keyboard, great performance, and impressive battery life.

What We Disliked

We disliked the Samsung NC10 for lack of multi-touch modest-sized trackpad.

Our Final Verdict

The Samsung NC10 isn’t a high-end netbook, it is a modest performer in the mid-range line. Keeping the details to minimum, it boasts a minimalist design that’s attractive and clean. We loved the Samsung NC10 for its solid performance with great battery life. It comes with a great price tag for those on a budget. If you’re looking for great value at affordable prices, the Samsung NC10 is your netbook of choice.
